another tire size question

would 255/50ZR16 tires fit on 9 inch wide wheels? ive been triing to figure this out...
on one site i found corvette specs with 255/50ZR16 tires on an 8.5 wide rim...so half an inch wouldnt make undoable, would it? i really dont wanna buy new tires right now..

The chart on this page at Goodyear shows you the recommened rim sizes for most popular tire sizes. The chart shows a 255/45-16 fit's a rim between 8" and 9 1/2" so the fact a 50 series tire will be just a little taller shouldn't be an issue.
