hey guys

returning supranoobiac to pick up a swap project from a few years ago that got interrupted.

I am putting and 88 gte MT setup into a 86.5 na MT. I have two ecus and harnesses that were sent with the swap kit.

I think the engine i am putting in was originally wired AT. The grey AT ECU/grey plug harness set seem to match up connector wise better than the yellow plug ECU/harness set I have that is MT.

There is an 88 harness for sale that is in better shape than my yellow plug MT setup (that I am assuming I should use for the swap.) I was thinking of buying it and saving myself some potential electrical issues down the road.

But I am wondering if I will still end up having to cut and splice connectors from the grey AT ecu/harness anyway. The plug colors on my CPS and water neck connectors etc are grey.

Does plug color matter if its just engine side and the ecu and harness match?

Is it better to go with the engine connectors (ie Grey AT setup) or with the shell and actual tranny i am using (yellow MT ecu/harness)?

Am i making any sense? I did a little looking at other peoples harness issues... but didn't really see much that answered the unmatched engine issue I have. Did an ebay ish search of ECU's to determine that the yell MT ECU is likely and 88 and this is the year of the shell i was told the motor came out of...

Any clarification is appreciated...

thx muchly!

I think my issue at root is that the swap kit i bought was in the process of being AT -> MT swapped. I think the engine was an 89 with an 89 AT ECU and Harness initially. I was sent an extra 88 MT ecu/harness that was likely intended to go on with the transmission swap. Shell is 86.5 and has yellow/green plugs.

In short, is it ok to try to use a new harness and 88 MT ecu on an 89+ block/accessories setup? Looks to be a better fit with the shell. and I would like to pick up this very clean 88 harness and use that w the 88 MT ecu to avoid future potential electrical issues...but if i need to replug it anyway so it mates with the engine.... i just kinda hate to not use the old crap and screw up a new one....

Or do i need to bag all the ecus, i currently have and just buy an 89+ ecu and harness that is MT?

if that helps clarify the problem.... going back to searchin now =)

thx
