A340 problem

My auto is playing up.
In D it only operates in overdrive gear, ie limp mode.
Manually selecting 1st & 2nd is fine as is reverse.
It does not throw any codes at all.
About two days before the problem I noticed my tacho was playing up, ie bouncing all over the place & generally showing more rpm than actual.
Would the two be related in any way?:1zhelp:

Track down your instrument cluster problem first. It may clear up your transmission problem.

You could have a stuck number 1 solenoid. That would put you in direct drive, which is 3rd. You will accelerate very slowly.

I am not sure if there will be a DTC set if a solenoid fails or is physically stuck(from lack of maintenance). An open or short circuit sets a code.
