like a lot of people i like the pre89 front bumper..but the looks of it the 89+ bumper looks more aggressive..but has anyone ever cut the nose from the 89+ bumper to have the grille like the pre89? if possible can someone photoshop the cut nose? wouldn't there be more airflow since if done, the grille area would be bigger than the pre89?

Yes i am in the process of modifying my 86 and i have done that to my bumper it looks way better i think and alot more aggressive (i got the later bumper fitted to my 86) Especially with a nice front mount tucked in there it looks great! I am in the process of doing everything i can to my car to make it look like early 90s facelift model including professional black paint once its all finished! I just nicely cut it all off the bumper and reinforced the thin plastic bit down the bottom other wise that piece that is left there is to wobbly and bends very easily.

I just re-read your message and miss-understood exactly what you were asking about. I thought you were talking about the vent bits down the bottom of the bumper. I personally would leave that nose there it wouldnt do shit removing that anyway!

well, i was guessing there would be more airflow to the intercooler and/or radiator...but personally, i just like the pre89 grille section...the nose is ugly IMO..but the 89+ bumper is more aggressive...just don't like the nose

Neverminding the nose job you are talking about "NOSE JOB" LOL LOL! You should go back to that photoshop and do what i have done and see what it looks like? You might like that?

I like how the pre 89 has a hole where intercooler is instead of what look like wee grille bits IMO.

i know what youre talking about...i did that with my old 86.5...i took mine out and i liked the look...i was gonna do the same with a 89+ bumper just minus the nose...then i had to sell it...i'll be picking up an 89 this weekend...just gotta tow it...

So you also coincidently have replaced your original bumper on the 86.5 that you had and put on the 89+ bumper and done what i have done to it?

So you did this to your 86.5???.......................

You can see that this person has added mesh behind for more effect as well!

question, is the bumper cover solid in the upper part (the top part that is different than the <88). i wouldnt mind hacking it off, as i like the look of the <88 front better than the 89>. i just want to know how much work im in for.h

Ahhh... sorry.

The 89+ nose could be modified to remove the center top piece so that it is open and flat like the 88s.

Don't use Bondo though. It won't flex right and will crack out.

check out www.urethanesupply.com and get your self some FlexFiller to smooth out the marks made from removing things.

i was thinking of fiberglassing it but urethane would work as well.

Do not fiberglass or bondo. They won't flex right and will fall out after a short time.

The FiberFlex filler will work GREAT though. I've had mine all fixed up since 2002 and no problems.

I like the nose part, flows in with the hood...

to each their own, but I wouldn't do it (looks cool from the side too)
