I know why the whole y-pipe and intake manifold setup wraps from the side of the engine, over the valves covers, is to add torque at low rpms for Incredible drivability and the dual stage manifold for 2 torque curves, without sacrificing drivability. I had a few ideas about Designing an intake manifold that will eliminate the good, conveniant low end torque and move the power band up, to the higher rpms to gain quite a bit more high rpm power. In the Toyota technical articles they backup their theory with proof of a dyno/ possible flow chart of how the dual stage manifold performs compared to a 1 stage (possible front face) manifold, which it might be possible to make a dual stage out of a front face manifold. This in mind would take a hell of a time Fabricating. Just a thought. Ideas like these would be awesome to implement into CADD then print out a custom fabricated front face "possible dual stage" manifold to Aid in the high rpms but would sacrifice greatly in low end power for the single stage but with the dual stage may reserve maybe half of the low end power.
