so my friend's got a 87na and he'll give me all the shit to do the tranny swap for 300 bucks. it's got a new stock clutch in it with like 10 miles. yeah, 10.
so a couple questions. and will probably have more soon.

-Should i get the flywheel resurfaced?

-Any modifications(cutting, etc.) needed to be made to make the w58 work with my GTE?
i know you gotta cut the hole where the shifter goes, firewall?

-How long does it usually take?
Any special things to know?

there was a good thread on mkiiitech, but now its gone:(
any information would be cool.
thanks.

I thought the autos already have the place for the clutch? Its just mounting the clutch, the small hole in the firewall I though was already there. Its been a while since I've even looked at an auto supra though.

Well, it would be a good idea to resurface the flywheel, but it will most likely work fine, especially if it was resurfaced 10 miles ago.

I'll admit last time I replaced my clutch, I didn't get it resurfaced. It had about 10k miles on it since I had last resurfaced it. I took my wire wheel in my grinder, and goround off all of the clutch material that had fused to the surface (I'm very hard on it). Doesn't chatter, then again, it's a 3200lb PP.

Your car already has the hole for the clutch master cylinder, just remove the piece covering it. I'v done 2 manual swaps and did not have to cut the shifter hole area, although I'v seen people do it for some reason.

It took me an entire weekend, but I'm not a contortionist. I ended up removing my front seat so I could get the pedals in easier. I didn't bend good enough to get up under the dash to get to the bolts for the pedals. Don't forget to order your clutch line from www.driftmotion.com for $40.00. Good luck.

No it's not that bad, but it'll cost you about the same as the one Aaron sells and it's one piece. He didn't offer this when I did my swap or I would have went with his. It's really not that hard to do, but it took me a while to swap out the brake and clutch pedal. There is a step by step write up on here somewhere, but I can't remember where. It had the wiring help you'll need also. I think there was only two wires you had to mess with though. It's really simple once you get started doing it. Good luck again.

FWIW i wouldent resurface the flywheel, unless it was ten miles of slipping clutch ;)

Maybe put in a better clutch?

do i need a new pilot bearing? i know the throwout should be replaced..im gonna ask my buddy if he changed his when he did his clutch job 10 miles ago.

also was considering the sogi short shifter mod. i have done my reading. lemme just get this straight..you break the lower part of the shifter off, which causes it to sit lower right?

and do i have to get both of those bushings from toyota?
are these good here:

I don't know how to do the short shifter mod, but you will need those two new bushings when doing the five speed swap. It's best to go ahead and replace them. If the pilot bearing had just been replaced then I wouldn't worry about it, but if he didn't replace it then you definately should. It will just save you from doing it again later.
