It seems that once or twice a year I consider changing my 2 piece tail lights from my '88 to the 3 piece tails from '89+.
Ultimately I decide to stick with what I got because I couldn't stand having a piece of miss matched moulding from the middle section of the 3 piece tails, and replacing all the moldings to '89+ is out, since I don't particularly care for their looks (or their cost).
However, I would go with 3 piece tails if there was a way to remove the +'89 moulding from the center section and replace it with my current '88 trim.
Does anyone know if this has been done before? If so, how was it done? Would it even fit?

Its been done before. I believe it involves some cutting and re-gluing, so if you're up for it, go for it. I saw someone do it in a thread, but I dont have a link for you. I took off a pre89 center molding in hopes of putting it on my 89+ centerpiece, but decided just to rock the pre89 moldings and 89+ centerpiece. No one ever points out that its different, lol. If my pre89 trim wasnt so mint, then I would change to the 89+ full set. Unless my moldings start rusting and falling apart, Im keeping them on.
