my supra is an 87 and it has the 1 peace spoiler on the back so i was just wondering how much trouble it is to swap it out for a 3 peace of a newer mk3. I bought the car with the fender trim peace in front of the head light and one head light brown :3d_frown: and i have buy some paint any way so if it bolted up and didn't involve filing any hole i was going install one.

i remember reading its not that ez.
i remember on one thread a local body shop doing the 3 pc. spoiler mod on the pre 89, and the guy hated it, and it would be his first and last time he'd do that. i think it took him like 5+ hours, maybe it was just the shop, but i dunno.
i couldn't imagine it being super easy.

My car is an 88 and has a 3 peice. If some one were to make a template that matched the dimensions of the bottom of the wing, like a template of part of the rear quarter panel.

You can do it...just be patient and measure and test fit like a thousand times before you drill any holes.

^ He speaks the truth. I've got an '88 and will be putting a newer style spoiler on. Iirc the only holes that lined up on mine were the middle ones. Putting the center piece on isn't the hard part... Putting the side pieces on and making it look stock is the tricky part... I haven't done mine yet, but this is what I've gathered so far by just mocking the new one up on the hatch.

^^^^Nice Art there lamo!!!!

You will need all side interior plastic and interior decklid platic off!!!
No its not that hard and requires no template. All you need is a good eye, a pencil, and a drill. Line up the spoiler on the decklid the way it should be. Once set circle the bolts coming from the spoiler with a pencil. Drill your holes and your set. You will need some screws for the sides of decklid spoiler. As far as side pieces they have plugs that hold them on. You can get them at toyota or Napa sells similar. I saved a few bucks at Napa. Set side pieces how you want mark plug and drill. Snap in new plugs (two per sidepiece) and your set. As far as the pre 89 spoiler goes, the 89+ spoiler does a good job of covering up your decklid. The best way is body work, but a quick solution to avoiding body work might be some of those plastic flat top plugs to fill the holes. I would glue them in so no leaky and then use touch up paint to paint them the same color as your car. I bet you couldn't even tell you did it unless you get up close and know where to look. Thats my two cents!!!

no if I do decide to install a piece i'll weld the holes shut and grind them flat. If your going to do it might as well do it right lol
