2jz vvti abnormal noise from head

I have a 2jzgte vvti , at idle it sounds lik a diesel engine.
What can possible be wrong with it??
How can I find out whats the problem, it wont throw a check engine light either.
Engine still pulls hard

Sounds like something is trying to get out... and is knocking until you let it out.

Seriously though, does the sound go away after driving for a bit? Might be an exhaust leak. Might however be something smacking around inside the engine.

Use a stethoscope and Liston on the valve covers and Vvti actuator.
