I have been helping a friend swap a 1jz GTE VVTi into a 240Z. It came with a number of missing parts which is pretty much expected. I thought I would share a little information in order to help anyone who is trying to do a similar swap.
The mass air flow sensor did not come with the motor so we had to determine how to source the part in the U.S.
Turns out after a few hours of searching forums I have determined that the MAF used in the 1jz VVTi engine is the same as the 1996 IS400 and its related models. Also heard that it is the same as the supra mk4 but I cannot confirm this.
The part number is 22250-50060. This information can be crossed referenced at this site
http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/
By the way if you have not checked out that site it is worth getting familiar with if you plan on doing one of these swaps. It pretty much references every model of Toyota and Lexus cars and their part numbers plus the price you pay at any dealership. However, I recommend after you find a domestic cross reference for your part, search
car-parts.com
and find it used to save yourself a lot of money. I think this MAF sensor according to toyodiy.com would cost you around $1,000 new from the dealership. Searching the same part on car-parts.com you can find it for the very reasonable prince of $45 for the same sensor. Of course there is always e-bay and other car parts sites, this is just the first rout I take.
Basically all I am trying to do is introduce a method of sourcing and cross referencing parts. The fact that these engines were never imported to the U.S. makes it hard sometimes to find parts. Using toyodiy.com to cross reference your parts with models that were imported to the U.S. and then using car-parts.com to find that part can save yourself money and a lot of headache. I hope this is helpful.
