Hello.,
I have the stock 190 tstat.
Monitoring my ecu temps gives me readings of 200-205 degrees.
Is this normal?

I suspect a sticky tstat or air in the system.
My other symptom is upon first warm up the gauge spikes 3/4 of way up and then immediately settles back down.
If its air will it purge itself ? I burped the sytem when reassembling...

The only other thing is although the tstat has very low miles(<5k) it sat around for the last 2 years while rebuilding..

Have new radiator, waterpump....

Anyone have any ideas?

That is within the normal ops range (176-212 deg F).

A sticking T-stat will cause the gauge behavior you describe. Replace the stat and test it's opening temp in a pot of hot-boiling water before you install...use a Toyota OEM or a Stant SuperStat rated at 190 deg (since you are in a hot climate you can go with a 180, but no lower). Replace the gasket. Remove the jiggle valve after you test, leaving a small hole, then install (you will never have to "burp" again).

FYI - I have had brand new T-stats stick like that (why I'm telling you to test 1st)

i never heard of the jiggle valve trick.
sounds like something i will try soon.
i believe it was air or my aftermarket sender is whacky, i witnessed it one more time and watched my ecu temps simultaneously. when the real temp was rapidly rising from 180-200 thats when the gauge spiked, but the real temp never went past 202..
thanks for the tip.
