    ABS delete? 87 turbo.. Q's

low speed snow or gravel ABS stopping distances can be longer because it doesn't allow the tires to dig in. In every other situation it can save your ass, good driver or not. Stopping distances are shorter even for a professional driver with ABS, proven over and over again. You think is was a...

    Dual Walbros?

oh, I believe you. I just haven't heard it myself..... and sometimes one man's noise is another man's music.... ... rock and roll ain't noise pollution, right? for a rock and roll outlaw, anyway... ooooo. two aussie music refrences in one post. speaking of, some cleveland area bros of mine...

    Dual Walbros?

dig, I think that would be the ticket. I bet that 044 is quite a bit louder than this 025 and it pulls four more amps. Any standalone could program an aux out to relay around a ballast when you punch it, then you'd actually have redundant circuits powering the pump... also good I suppose. The...

    Dual Walbros?

Bosch #0 580 464 025 --> runs @ 50GPH (~190lph) @ 100psi (6.8 bar) interesting, huh? I've got one of these in the garage that came from a late b230ft turbo volvo, I think it was a '91. I guess I won't be shopping for a fuel pump anytime soon. For general consideration (and hours of...

    Dual Walbros?

huh. that 044 looks suspiciously like the volvo turbo inline pump. it's a noisy bastard too. I think I've got two or three of those hanging around in boxes... I'm off to search for some specs. ...also, volvos heat up their fuel significantly over time, they will vapor lock in an instant on a...

    Eliminating thermostat

Also, a fluid moving past a stationary surface doesn't move uniformly, the layer of fluid right against the surface is actually stationary or nearly so, then as you get farther away from the surface the fluid moves faster. essentially, fluid "sticks" to the walls. This is called laminar flow. As...

    Oil in spark plug holes...

I always bench bleed my spark plug holes before firing up a new motor. You have to make sure there's no air in there or you get a spongey spark. nobody wants that.

    piston to cylinder bore clearence

If you leave the second ring in an old piston you can do exactly the above but there's no sighting involved; you put the new ring to be measured in the bore up at the top, then push it down with the upside down old piston until the ring sticking out of the second land sits right on the deck...

    engine internals

dig. nice work. I'll probably start with the 7M (since that's what will be in the late block anyway) and see what my machinist thinks about the whole thing. I think he'll mostly just be amused when I bring him one of these.... the last motor I built was a '56 packard V8.

    engine internals

any external way to tell the squirt/no squirt blocks apart? The chances of randomly pulling a no-squirt GTE seems slim, but sometimes my luck isn't the greatest.... Also, I know your thread with the crank pics said the 7M crank rev'd smoother, but did it rev significantly slower? In V8's a few...

    engine internals

nice link. had not found that. exactly what I needed. 5 ribs vs. 9 ribs. and those lower ribs will be easy to spot also. dig. on the JDM tip, I don't really care other than I wouldn't want to pull a motor out of a junk that was a JDM replacement if it was inherently less strong in any way than...

    engine internals

I have been. There's a ton of conflicting information... This board seems to be less "dood, how do I turn the boost up to 20?" than the other boards, that's why I'm asking here. I did find cam specs (stock and a few aftermarket) just now, here: http://users.tpg.com.au/users/loats/index.html I...

    engine internals

so the blocks changed part year in '89? how about JDM blocks? same year? Anyone know if there is an easy way to tell externally, ie in a junkyard? Are there any strength differences between the two cranks? I don't really see many crank failures mentioned anywhere on the web, I assume either...

    engine internals

There seems to be quite a bit of mis-information regarding engine internals, their year ranges, and their desirability. Specifically: What year (or part year) exactly is the break between the early 7mgte blocks with the weaker main webbing and the later blocks? Also, are the JDM blocks...

    hello and dumb questions

dig. pushing anything over 20psi with no orings sounds like disaster to me, but it looks like lots of guys are doing it. Hadn't found that megasquirt thread, thanks. Maybe a 1j in a volvo 242 on megasquirt would be fun... I was going to do a 16v 2.3l volvo b230 conversion, but the 1j just has...

    hello and dumb questions

New here, I'm a car junkie of several varieties at once; I've had (and worked on or built) everything from rat rods to turbo cars. I'm studying the megasquirt book right now and looking for a turbo car. It may end up being a volvo but I'm a fan of these 'yota motors so I'm keeping my eyes open...
