Mine did that too. When the bearing goes it makes a really ugly crunching noise and the car starts missing a lot. I'm not sure about in the states but over here in Australia there are a couple of mobs that rebuild them with oversize bearings and bigger seals cos they have a propensity to leak...
I'm not going to pretend like i know what i'm talking about concerning ITB's but for you guys questioning the method behind Defiant's madness in using ITB's you obviously haven't read his build thread. His motor is an absolute MONSTER and I really hope he goes through with it.
I say stick with N/A. I rebuilt mine last year with cams, 10.5: 1 comp, ported head, crank scrapers etc and untuned running stock AFM it made 170 at the wheels. It fry's the tires and is really reliable. Yes turbos are good but they're not the end all be all. Dare to be different.
As it is stock injectors overfuel an n/a motor. Even a tuned n/a motor really wont need anything bigger than stock. Not unless you're doing some serious work to it
Agreed. Besides the 7M creates more torque than the 2j and in a heavy car you want torque.
As most of us have said mate it comes down to what you want out of your motor and how much you're willing to spend
Hey man. You mentioned earlier that you thought your power steering pump was leaking but you didn't seem too sure about it. It might be worthwhile checking your dizzy for a leak out the bottom. I thought i had a similar problem with my power steering but it turned out that it was just my dizzy...
I did the same rebuild last year on my n/a 7M.
It really depends on how much you're willing to spend on ur motor.
I used a cometic head gasket on mine and used arp head studs. i havn't had a problem but then again i've only done 8000 k's.
While you've got the motor apart it couldn't hurt to play...
I think you need to be more specific about what you want from your car. As these guys have said above if you're chasing big power then go turbo.
BUT if you're just after a good, reliable cruising car then I rekon n/a is the way to go. Also are you rebuilding the engine or is it already a running...
Nothing wrong with a good n/a build mate. I'm behind you 100%.
I've just rebuilt my n/a and it hammers.
There are a few build threads on the GE and build up section. Try there for info
WOW.
This is an impressive donk man. I recently rebuilt my 7M with some extra pepper and did heaps of research on here beforehand but I never found this thread.
Looking forward to seeing the new pics.
Cheers
Wow that's a mega friendly dyno. Where can I find one lol.
Btw i've been sussing out computers and my local dyno shop sells a lot of little atom ecu's.
Haven't looked into em too much but thats the next plan and after that I can start playing with ignition and cams.
Hey guys I've finally got an update on the new motor.
Just got back from the dyno and I'm pretty happy so far.
Running 11 deg advance on ignition and Intake cam is at 7 deg adv and 3 deg adv on exhaust it made 166.7 and 785 pound/tractive effort. But running WAY rich under load.
The guys at the...
Hi guys there is probly a thread for this somewhere on the forum but I am yet to find a thread with any diffinitive evidence of a solution for cam cover leaks.
I recently rebuilt my 7M and suffered the common leak out the back of the cam covers but I am confident that I have solved the problem...
OK thanks, I'll go to the wreckers tomorrow and see what sort of cars they have there.
Hopefully some camry's so I can check out the linkage system.
I'll keep watching the twins thread for any updates and pics.
Cheers
This is a little upsetting.
You're pretty rough on your cars dude. But i spose it's your car not mine so do what you want with it.
Also why was there a 7M in the back of your car???
I'll keep watching anyway to see where this goes.
Nice!!!
Your 7M sounds nice and throaty and picks up nicely off low end revs.
Probly a silly question but do you have a build thread for your motor?
I looked at a couple when I was building mine but I'd love to read yours considering it made 215 at the wheels.
Also while I think of it what are...
Hey man not sure if you've read the recent comments or attempted the rear main yet but i though i'd give you the link to my thread where I fixed my cam cover leak.
The pics aren't great but they give you the general idea...
