OK, I just got done checking all the ignition grounds, the spark plugs, coils, and igniter.
I cleaned all the grounds (just to make sure I had a good clean ground) in the engine bay except for the ones off the tranny under the car.
I pulled all the plugs and 4 of the 6 were pretty dirty...
I haven't found any vacuum leaks. I'll keep that in mind when I am testing the coil and igniter tonight to check those, as well.
100% stock fuel system. In other words, there is still a 7m n/a fuel pump in the tank, which I have not upgraded because the engine is stock and the A/F ratios...
Yeah, I'll have to ask some of the 2JZ guys if they have an extra one I could try.
Barring that, does anyone know if there is a way to test the igniter?
I've been scouring all of the misfire, ignition problem, and car running rough threads on this forum for weeks and have also been keeping my eye on the Supraforums for ideas on what to do. I haven't come up with the right answer yet, so I am posting my own thread for my own symptoms and...
Man, some of you people are worthless. Why post at all if you are going to be sarcastic or ridicule the guy?
I'd recommend completing the exhaust side after the turbos before anything else. If you still have the stock cat, I'd recommend replacing it with a high flow cat (like I did) or...
I popped my hood a couple weeks ago and noticed that there was a vacuum hose sticking out near my intake filter that had come loose when (what appears to be) a vacuum check valve broke.
*Pics are thumbnails to help the dial up folks :)
So I went to Napa and picked up a universal...
I've got an 86.5 N/A that has been transformed over the last 2 years to a 1JZ and has been running great. However, I knew from the moment I bought the car that the diff was dying at 150k miles. Had lots of slop and made clunking sounds from time to time.
Now, after driving it with the 1JZ...
boosted_88: I am sorry you were kind of made fun of... feel free to email me (rtboy02@hotmail.com) or instant message me (on the left under my user name) if you have any questions. I'm here to help!
You've covered all the bases. The only other things that could be causing your problem are EMI (electro-magnetic interference) or legitimate noise that is causing the knock sensor to go nuts.
I assume you have checked for knock (with a stethoscope)? The knock sensor can pick up other...
You are right, Joe. I agree, its all been done before. I don't think you pick a Supra as your project car if you are looking for something that is truly unique :)
Don't get me wrong, I love my 1JZ. But if the price were equal for a 1JZ and a 2JZ, I would jump on the 2JZ in a heartbeat. Yes, that is opinion. And I'd be willing to bet 90% of people in that situation would also choose the 2JZ, if for nothing else than readily available parts at your local...
The 1JZ is a 2.5 liter bi-turbo 6 cylinder. The other engine you are talking about is the 7MGTE, which is a 3.0 liter single turbo 6 cylinder.
Both would require about the same amount of work. The 1JZ probably offers more potential for power and durability, but less torque and less...
Andrew, I am not doubting you, but I'd like to see some pictures of what you are talking about.
In my situation, there was NO WAY the harness was going to reach the ECU unless I moved the ECU to the engine bay (not gonna happen) or lengthened the wires.
The 2JZ water pump will bolt right in, but you will have to get the pump AND the water pump housing AND 2JZ pulley. They are all separate pieces.
I ordered mine from Elmhurst and got a pretty good price on the whole thing (only slightly more than aftermarket prices at Autozone). I think it...
Thanks Bryan. You weren't being overly pushy or anything. I should have specified why it didn't fit in the first place. The holes for the bolts and the teeth on the gear are the same and it looks like it should work, but try as I might I can't get the thing lined up due to interference...
