whats a good setup to make a mk3 drift better?

I've seen a lot of pictures with people's foglights on, without their lights being up. But on my car ('89supra), the foglights will only turn on if the main lights are on. is there something wrong with my foglights? or do i need to disconnect the main lights to do that?
