I went to a college that specialized in automotive engineering. Many of the guys became less interested in cars as they learned more. The mystique was gone.
Not to be crass, but I think diving into that basket case completely blind is kinda like having sex for the first time. You don't...
I think you have this backwards. Pressure = Force x Area. Increasing the area increases pressure for the same force. It makes sense to go to a larger bore master for better pedal feel.
It would narrow it down if you could tell us if it is relative to engine speed or wheel speed.
Run your 60 mph test in 4th gear, 5 gear, and report back.
Thanks, Defiant. I brought up the AY6 on this forum or the other. The response was that it was completely different from the AR5 and not that robust anyway. Still, if an appropriate bellhousing could be found, I think it would be a very interesting swap.
Have you seen any pics of the front...
Yes, I modified it by welding the supra shift housing on it. The interface is all Supra. You can see the welds in the pics.
Hmm, I don't know. I'm not familiar with that mod.
At this point we can slot the Solstice shifter into the Supra trans:
Unfortunately, the attachment plate does not line up:
But it does shift. I was able to get gears by holding the plate down with one hand, and moving the shifter with the other.
I can think of 3 ways to fix...
Now, moving to the Solstice shifter assembly:
In a similar manner as the supra, pull up the rubber boot and remove the 4 bolts. The attaching plate slides off:
Hey guys, that's my auction. The shifter is left over from the Solstice swap - which is indeed a 5 speed. I decided to use the Supra shifter for a couple reasons:
1) I don't particularly care for short throws. I like that fact that I don't have to reach far from the steering wheel to find...
Zazzn, I couldn't find any front bearing retainer pics.
Nashman, the AR5 can be had nearly new for less than the cost of a R154 rebuild. Check car-part.com.
Correct the H3 also uses the AR5. I was unaware that Mallet retained the AR5 in the V8 Solstice kits! That's 400 lb-ft folks!
Zazzn, I'll check for front bearing retainer pics when I go home tonight. I had to modify the shifter housing because the bolt patterns were different. The...
I'm waiting for the 2007 truck engines to hit the junkyards. The 6.0 is available with an aluminum block and VVT. Yes, VVT on a pushrod engine.
This beast makes 366 HP/ 380 lb-ft on 87 octane. It makes more torque off-idle than I do at peak. Oh...and it gets better mileage than a 7M too.
