here is some tips, make sure you have a hot battery(this will keep everything equal if the motor is spinning the same speed all the time), if you think you have a ring problem, shoot some oil down the cylinder and see if the compression number comes back up, if it comes up, 95% its a ring issue...

Dont get too crazy, I just tore down a 3000gt motor cause the owner of the car had someone do a COLD compression test on it(a BIG no no, gotta let those rings/pistons get warm so they can seat) with erratic results, come to find out, it most likely had a cam timing issue(dohc v6's are notorious...

By looking at those photos, that crack has been there for years, note the amount of rust buildup on the crack, that doesnt happen in a week. Personally, I would recommend replacement, but if you are atament about welding it up, do a good bevel with a dremel on both sides and tac the piss out of...

:werd: Just a basic piggy back like emanage blue or emanage ultimate will yeild you timing control(not very expensive) Timing control is where its at, you can crank up the timing off boost and reduce the lag times significantly. :naughty:
