Get a diesel. They get better mileage when towing, mostly becuase they produce their maximum torque in lower rpm ranges.
My uncle just bought an F-350 super duty diesel.
It makes 571 ft/lbs of torque at 2,000 rpm. A comparable gas engine would probabaly be at around 4,000 rpms...
