after i changed the gasket most of the smoke went away. and now it idles better. but something is still messed up internally. everything on the outside looks fine. wires, pipes, i even checked the fuel injectors. i'm gonna buy a compression tester monday cause napa's closed during the weekend...
i pulled off the turbo cause as soon as it happened i thought the turbo was gone. but it wasn't leaking oil at all. the shaft was fine. i noticed oil in the number 4 cyl exhaust port. i then checked the coolant and it was milky. the head gasket was damaged a little bit but not to the point that...
well. i got it running. i used the safc to make it idle better. but it's nowhere near driveable. smoke is coming from the exhaust manifold. and i hear noises from the crank pulley area when i rev it. smoke comes out too, but only when i rev it. also tons of smoke is coming from exhaust, white smoke.
ok, tell me what you think about this. valve stem oil seals. can i be losing compression through that. could air be forced into where the valve cover is and blow oil through the pvc system. i noticed oil around the air filter to my catch tank. then the air could also be forced into the crank...
well, i changed the head gasket. it runs the same it did when it happened. can bad piston rings cause the engine not to run? if it's the main seal i'll fix it now, but if it's the piston rings then it will have to wait tilll march.
the turbo was fine. no shaft play at all. spins nice and free.
no i didn't do a compression test. as soon as i saw the oil in the exhaust port i figured it was the head gasket, plus the coolant was milky and for sure had oil in it. and i had the waterfall sound, which i noticed about 2 weeks...
my car was running fine the other day. i got on the highway and decided to go fast on the on ramp. it hit 4th and the car started losing power and smoking REALLY bad. oil was burning somehere. i barely got it back home. it was puttering and barely stayed alive. so i thought maybe it was the head...
from what i've learned from a buddy of mine who has an MKIV, it's used to trap gases and oil. it stops them from going back into your intake. i bought a greddy catch tank from him that he used in his mkiv, and it is working, it's amazing how much oil is going into the intake with the stock setup.
