So what is the typical situation for a speed sensor failing..... Does the transmission switch when its not saposed to?

im buying the car to start learning, im only 17 and i can rebuild a motocross bike with my eyes closed. I havnt even really WORKED on a car before, other than my auto class but that was all about changing tires and making sure the air pressure was right, baby stuff.

TV cable? Ya its a non-turbo and i taught him how to do the codes from the site and he will be doing it tonight with a friend that rebuilt his transmission, when he finds out he'll be bringing it to mr.transmission tommorow after his work.
