    Stripped Targa Threads

I've had good succes with a helicoil repair also. Since it's not a high heat location, i also added thread-forming epoxy (with release agent on a "dummy" bolt) as I installed the helicoil. It's held fine for 8 years. I've become more torque sensitive when installing the panel.:biglaugh:

    So WTF just happened?

Oh, and my choice of oil weight is based on my location. It's 99% highway miles. If I fire the engine i'm going at least 35 miles of 2 lane blacktop. I figure 5-40 is appropriate for sustained highway speeds (or better); virtually no stop and go.

    So WTF just happened?

Yeah, the oil level was fine. I understand the stock gauge may not be precise, but I assume it,at least, reads consistantly. And no, I'm not set up to check the temp. I'm thinkin' no,harm,no foul, as it appears to be back to it's normal self. Thanks, WSB

    So WTF just happened?

Thanks for the input. I'm not convinced, though. I flog it regularly, especially pulling grade in the mountains and on much hotter days; the oil pressure has never fluctuated like that before. Maybe the oil cooler diverter valve (stock set-up) stuck open temporarily, bleeding off pressure...

    So WTF just happened?

I've had my car back on the road for about six months, running strong with good oil pressure; about 38-41 psi at operating r's and 18psi at hot idle. I ran into town this week, hittin' it hard, runnin' good, everything's peachy. On the way home, I'm heading up the hill, full boost (10 #), I...

    Question about Denver services

I've got the head off my 87T for a valve job. I want to get the injectors cleaned and balanced, just as a preventative measure. Does anyone know of a local Denver area business they would recommend for this service. I found Injector-Rehab on the web for $16 apiece, but would prefer a carry-in...

    Overly cautious

Any detrimental impact from using NAPA's spray gasket remover to decarbon engine internals; head, valves, piston crowns, etc.? It's a mighty potent and effective solvent.

Tips on removing crank pulley bolt

I made my own SST from a 1.5 x 1.5 x .25 piece of angle iron about 24 in. and two metric cap screws. Notch it to allow deep socket and drill two holes to match the pulley. Mine is slotted bc the Tacoma spacing is different than the Supra. Use cap screws or they'll just bend. Cheep!

New guy with the same ol' problem

Hi all! I'm an old fart thats been turnin' wrenches for 35 years. I build houses for a living but I'm a reasonably good backyard mechanic if I have a book to follow. I've OH'd such things as '54 GMC panel with full chrome grill/front end option and camping conversion; FC 170 Jeep w/ 400 chevy...
