Like I mentioned earlier I would like to be even to the power levels I have in the GT-R so about .16rwhp/lb with driver
If I can get the Supra down to 3075lbs with driver I would like to have about 495whp, obviously the earliest power and torque band possible, seems like kind of an odd...
Ok well I will have to see what I can do. But after a few days of lots of research I am kind of on the fence with a 2jz or a 1uz, buying a 1uz is much cheaper, lighter and should move the weight balance back. There is a local 1uz for $550.
Well first things first, I need to sell the GT-R, I have been really tempted to just pull the trigger on a MKIII, but I would rather not just have it sitting around until I am ready to get to work on it. So hopefully it moves fairly quickly.
Great info!!
I think I am going to go with an '88 hard top, since I kind of want the lighter roof.
I think I have decided I will just go with a 2JZ-GTE swap light weight forged internals, smallish turbo horsepower goal is around .16rwhp/lb with driver, with V160 transmission and custom drive...
No troll at all.
Yes I want to build a MKIII track car. I enjoy building things, I have spent the last hour researching how to match master cylinders to multi-piston brakes, and brake lever ratios of floor mounted pedals. It is kind of a sickness for me, I find something and go over board...
Haha, not sure is a straight across trade would do it. ;) That is why I want to build a MKIII so that I can take it to the track and not be worried about it.
Ok great points! Not to mention the R154 is considerable cheaper than the V160. But just looking at the gear ratios a V160 with the 3.90 isn't much different than an R154 with the 4.30's that people swap in.
V160
1st - 14.925
2nd - 9.204
3rd - 6.5715
4th - 5.1168
5th - 3.9
6th - 3.0927
R154...
Awesome great to hear parts are still available.
Oh I didn't know that the manual in the non turbo MKIII was the W58, that is good to know. I don't know why I assumed the 2JZ had an R154, I guess it comes with the V160, so probably best bet is just to pull the old 7M-GE and W58 out and see...
Ok great thanks guys! I had seen 315's, I was thinking an 18x11. I found a pretty tired '88, that I could strip that the guy wants $1,500 for. I guess I will just need to decide if this is the car, I want to go with and actually get it in the garage and take some measurements.
Thanks,
Ryan
Hey guys I am looking at buying an '88 MKIII and stripping it down to bare metal, and doing a 2JZ swap. I just have a couple of quick questions, I did a quick search but I didn't find anything.
1. Body Molding and Weather Stripping - is this still available new from Toyota? I had a 71...
Thinking about buying a MKIII and turning it into a track car, but would need 295-315 tires for it's weight.
How do the rears attach? I saw that you had them riveted but that it wasn't suggested. Does the manufacturer just recommend using a product like a 3m seam sealer?
Thanks!
