I dropped the front sub frame when I did my bearings. oil pan gasket was no sweat. supported the engine with a hoist (home made haha), unhooked the motor mounts. put a jack under the sub frame and took out the bolts. it's not THAT bad.
Well, I don't mind them. Plus my solid mounts cost around 1/4 or so of the price of factory replacements let alone MK4 mounts. And they will never break.
^^^ Yeah. On my 91 the bolts come from the back of the car through the bell housing and thread into the starter. Is that what you're talking about? cuz just looking at it, seems like it's gonna be much harder that way.
So I've noticed. I think I'll try to unhook the driveshaft, tranny mounts, motor mounts and lean the the thing so I can reach. As it sits I don't think I can.
Didn't run a starter wire, stock wire to the battery is what I'm talking about.
Update: Touched the starter wire to the battery (Just as I did in the parking lot) and it didn't crank by itself. I'm gonna hook it up and re attatch the ignition wire and see if it opperates normaly. Still think...
Made it home. Turned the ignition on, touched the starter wire to the battery terminal and hit the road. heard the starter rattling around for a while, but the noise went away about half way home. So it either got knocked back in or I just shredded the damn thing and I have a whole new mess on...
I run solid mounts in my 91. It isn't too bad. vibrates at idle and goes away as soon as hit the throttle. just enough vibration to letyou know you're not driving a Caddy haha.
Hey, this is the guy with the problem. The push button start has been removed for some time now, so that's not an issue. I disconnected the small wire and it still turns over. this leads me to believe it's the solenoid contacs as mentioned above. Tried the old "Hit it really hard" meathod with...
I made a brace over the engine bay using steel sign poles, hooked up a chain to the hooks on the motor, put the whole car up on jack stands. Then put my jack under the subframe, unbolted it and rolled it right out. had to unhook brakes etc. but it was a snap.
