ya gap wouldnt do that, maybe high in the rpm under boost it could blow out spark but not at 2k rpm.. timming, fuel, tps, I have also seen where engine temp sensor can cause an issue like this.
A spark should be able to jump a gap of almost 1/2 an inch with a good coil
lol.. if you really want to try and start it... Get a remote start from AZ or napa or somewhere... Connect one end to the positive post on the battery, connect the other end to the starter solenoid on the little tab comming from the igntion tumbler. put the car in neutral gear or park turn key...
I think you also said you have an Open to Atmosphere BOV, that can make you run rich.. Also would be why id dies when comming to a stop. Your dumping metered air into atmosphere and so makes it run rich. Also open to Atmophere BOV open at idle and could be messing with your O2 sensor cause the...
If you want to do it just go out and do it... If you break something its all on you... If you really want to do it, try it in the snow or rain alot less abuse on things
I have used the HF spring compressor and it isnt 1/2 bad (just make sure to put something on the threads) it just takes a little work to do and alittle time. If you know a shop and have a good relationship with them most will swap over springs for free or very cheap. I usally just hit the nut on...
alot of shocks/struts hace an allan head or it will be square at the top so you can use a wrench or allan head to hold the shaft in place... I wouldnt jack on any part of the suspension I would go on the pinch weld unless your going to tq the nuts for the bushings, also dont take the springs off...
lower front, Maybe swap back to a stock (with a lip) or or stock ish looking bumper... that bumper is alittle to curvy for a mkIII, they should be more square to flow well
I would just run the high compression, it will be nicer off boost.. just take it to a tuner and put the afc on you shouldnt det. if you have a good Air fuel ratio.. sounds like your planing to put it on anyways.. could always bring it up to Johnstown and let Brent tune it, he will get it dead on
You can still return the battery, just tell them whats been happening or just play dumb.... Try hooking the pos wire first then the neg... They might of messed up the lead core in the battery when being rebuilt (most batterys are just rebuilt).
Well you said you cant pass emissions please tell us your:

Just get a Universal high flow weld on cat from summit racing... 65 bucks last time I check
