Turned out to be the wire going from the alternator to the battery. When the swap was done, two different gauge wires were used. I think one ended up getting melted a little. turned out to be an easy fix.

I think the resonator and muffler from vibrant would do the job, the never ending problem is clearance. The cressida seems to be much different then a supra in that things are much tighter with a 3" exhaust already in place. The last suggestion the shop had was to redo the whole exhaust with...

Finally got around to bringing the cressida into a shop to get some advice and see what can be done. Because the 3" in the cressida is so tight, it leaves very little room for any improvement. The only thing they are thinking to do is go with a different muffler and drop the pipe to 2.5"...

Got around to adding the cat. It made a minimal difference, at best. In the future, i hope to take some of the advice given here to quiet the cressida down for a more pleasant DD experience and will post up with results. Thanks

Yes. 100% highway doing between 70-80mph i got right at 29mpg. I was shocked and checked my math several times. Keep in mind that was rarely hitting any kind of boost. What are some more typical numbers to see with 1jz supra's or cressidas

I'm running a fairly stock 1jz in my 89 cressida. It had a full 3" exhaust and i was averaging 20mpg or so. Recently i installed a generic 3" cat to pass inspection, since then i've been averaging 25-29mpg. I checked my math and have run 3 tanks threw it. Do these numbers sounds too good to be true?
