On the CPS, take a good close look at the blue wire (harness side); trace for any breaks, brittle areas, etc across the top of the motor. Also look at the wire it connects to on the CPS (it's red on mine)...same thing, trace into the CPS.

This is the NE signal wire...it provides engine rpm info from the 24 tooth gear inside the CPS to the igniter. The igniter in turn provides the rpm signal to the tach. If the ECU does not get this info, the car will not start (as you discovered) and it can cause an erratic tach reading.

While were on the topic, can someone tell me what color from the engine harness wires match what color on the CPS? My connector broke off and i lost it, So im just going to wire it up with an electronics 4 pin connector like for a computer. But i dont know which color goes to what. Thanks in advance

H = Harness
C = CPS

Red C - Blue H (NE signal)
Green C - Red H (G1 signal)
Yellow C - Yellow H (G2 signal)
White C (might be Brown looking) - Black H (ground)

Take a picture of the "christmas tree" aka the thermostat manifold with all the sensors on it.

Here they are. It's tough to get a good picture of that.
