Seriously, I've heard that this is just the difference between emissions compliance between engines.. I believe it may have something to do with the EGR. Don't take my workd for it, but the "U" is nothing to ponder or worry about.

I noticed the U as well when I was flipping through my HyperRev book the other day. 7M-GTEU. I doubt that there is any real difference though,.

I think drunc_medic is right, the "U" simply denotes differences in emission standards. AFAIK the "U" engines are/were usually sold in Japan.
