thats like saying a 1j is not worth trying to make fast as it lack serious torque. the 1g is almost equivalent to a honda motor and if you put serious time and money + fab skills into it it would eventually be fast. but its all in the eyes of the beholder. im not saying that in this point in time that i would rather have a 1g over my 7m but if i was rich i would deff. spend the money & time into making it do something over what a n/a 7m could do just for the fact as pretty much anyone i meet here in the u.s. will have nothing like it.

it is a shitty motor for the car and there is very few/none aftermarket parts for it but im sure there is some way to make it fast.

1j=plenty parts...better operating system....better everything lol

ya but it lack serious torque. the 1g on the other hand you really cant expect much out of it as its a 2.0l. but if you spent serious time and money you could make it fast.

everyone that has owned a 1j has pretty much gone 2j because its so slow until the upper rpms.

If it was a true 1g supra it would be cool to have, if it had just been swapped in not so much.

The 1G is one of toyotas longest motor in production.
I know of an old mk3 1G that was putting out close to 170kw at the wheels. The guy spent a lot of dosh on it. I'm running more then that with a 3inch dump and 12psi....
1g motors are in alot of different cars. Supras and soarers have the 1G-GTE, the old lexus IS200's (rebadged Altezza) have the 1G-FE's, along with the cresta and chaser. The crowns got the turbocharged version of the motor too. Check wikipedia, its all up there.

You should be able to get a rebuild kit from toyota still, Its just going to coz you an arm and a leg....

this is the united states we are talking about.....no 1g ever came here in any car....and it would be a stupid expensive build if youd have to order everything from japan to rebuild or whatever....now over seas it may not be near as bad....1j parts are much more popular here and american companies make aftermarket stuff for them so its much easier to work on...not as easy as a 2j or 7m but still

Never seen a 1G in a altezza or crersta or chaser. I may be wrong but didnt they get 1j's and 2j's?

onej.... agreed... but the 1G came out a decade before the 1J...

Gaboon... I don't know if you got the Lexus IS200's in the US, but they came with the 1G-FE. You never know, they may have put a different motor in it tho. I definately know that the IS200's have a 1g-fe in Australia and New Zealand. I wouldn't think they would, being Limited EXport US, everything would have been designed with the US market in mind.

If you can't get a hold of 1G-GTE parts, try searching for the New Zealand Altezza club. They have a Toyota parts worker on the site and gives a heafty discount and works out shipping for anything you want.

edit: again, ADM in mind. the altezzas came with the beams 3S motor. I simply mentioned them coz they shared the same body with the first generation IS series.

1j parts and taking over here in Oz, coz everyone wants them. most people ditch 7m's at the first sign of trouble.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like the 1G motor in anything that weighs more then 1 ton, 7m all the way. I'm just adding information I know as it seems the 1g motor isn't well known over in the states.

The Altezza IS200 had the 1G-FE, the Altezza RS200 had the 3S-GE, the Altezza Gita / IS300 had the 2JZ-GE.

The Chaser/Cresta used a 1G variant in the GX6x, GX71, GX81, GX90, and GX10x series' from 1980 to 2001. They also used M-series, and JZ-series engines in these as well as other engines too.

The GA70 was never made in LHD. It was however offered in both narrowbody and widebody setups. It was also offered with the 1G-E, 1G-FE and 1G-GTE engines, not just the 1G-GTE.

This thread and the rumors are a riot. Stop repeating what you've read from someone who has never owned a 1G.

Thank you Jeff, finally some truth in a post.
I've seen more turbo and supercharger kits from Blitz/GReddy/HKS, most all the same PNP ECU and piggy backs, big clutch options, internals, cams, stroker kits, etc., for the 1G than 1JZ. Getting these parts is not hard or expensive, you just need to know where to look or who to ask.

Sorry about that, I import many of them so when I see a supra with a 1G I automatically thing GA70. It is possible though.

Either way, it's not a common motor for a LHD supra.
