Ways to mount a Fuel Cell in the supra?

take out old tank(duh), cut out spare tire well, fab a bracket for the cell to sit a little down in there(so the hatch wont hit it), mount it up, go race it.

Since the Supra is a "hatchback" with no rear firewall, the only way to legally do it (for racign anyways) is to mount it UNDER the floor, with an access door (kinda like this one... http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...atalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=13145 ) to get at the filler cap.

So essentially it will involve cutting out the spare tire well, making a flat floor, and securign the cell from the bottom with straps. Kinda a pain in the ass, but worth it for the piece of mind.

Pretty much exactly what you gotta do if you want to do a box. Looks well done and above all, is the safe way to do it. You could also weld the sparetirewell with flat steel and do straps out of 1x1 steel, almost like a fuel cell "cage" and tie it into the rear "framerails". There are a few ways to do it, but as long as the cell is isolated from the drivers compartment, its all good. Also, be sure to double check the NHRA rules for appropriate thickness of the material. If you use AL, it will have to be thicker than sheetmetal, that is of course if you want to comply with track rules of course.

i plan on using steel so i can weld it right to the rear floor pan

bryan of course is spot on. you have to have it seperate from the driver compartment.

what i had thought about doing was making/modding a remote filler neck thru the stock location. that way you wouldnt have to screw w/ plates, trap doors and dzus fasteners everytime you need to fill it. of course, it would depend on what size cell you planned on running. i had planned on a 3g cell which would require often refilling.

also worth to mention, there is one i found that is a low profile shape that might fit nicely, atleast for my app. what size were you thinking about running?
