Ok so theres an engine set with r154 trans on ebay.

total cost including shipping would be around $2375.

Now locally theres a dude selling the 1jz motor+harness and turbos everything stock, FMIC .everything, Except the r154 tranny. he wants $900

so i know i will need a bellhousing id say around $400

not sure how much for a r154 tranny or where i could find one. i figure if i can get it for $400, it would put me at a total of 1700 which would be cheaper than the ebay set.

so my question is this, what would you recommend and how difficult would it be to find a r154. also, would i need custom tranny mounts , and ill probably need a r154 driveshaft...:1zhelp:

im drivin a 91 n/a with w58 if that helps

You should go with your option. This will give you a chance to look at the engine in person as I assume its local to you if its on craigslist.

bell housing costs around 350 shipped.
R-154 is not hard to find. Just look around and you will see someone selling them. they range in price from 250 - 400 or so.
You will stil be saving a bunch with you go craigslist route. you can always buy that engine set and then look around for the tranny.

i would go the craigslist route, only cause you can see the engine, and it looks beat on the outside, then its probably not in better shape inside...

and like suprastanger said, the R154's arent that hard to find...

154s are around, and you can get a bellhousing from champion toyota or driftmotion for 300 or 350. i would go craigslist.
worst case scenario, you run the w58 on it for a little while.

I have heard people having issues buying 1J swaps off of ebay, the pics are usually NOT the actual pics and it may come beat up with broken connectors and sensors etc.

If you can go check out the other engine in person, and possibly pull a valve cover (to give you at least SOME idea of how it was kept up), I would go this route. Especially if you don't have to ship and its cheaper.

Like others have said, r154's are available, and worst case you can run your w58 for a while.
