Brother man.... I hear u but I only understand what ur saying a little bit.

I want to try to Identify them while they are still in the block.

Driz: In a stock cast piston the valve reliefs are cast into them

In a forged piston most times they're machined in with a cutter

Look at the valve relief and you should be able to tell if they're stock or not.

in other words still in the block...

pulling the head is easy, taking the block aparat and putting it back together properly is not...

Wow so you can see the pistons when they're still in the engine? I had no idea...

Borescope through the sparkplug hole / Or looking through the bottom with oil pan off.

Taking the head off means ALOT of replacing of parts and machining.

I mentioned looking up underneath the piston skirt as this would only require dropping the pan.

its unlikely that your going to be able to tell without disassembling some of the motor. unless your superman and can see through the block....

Dropping the pan is not an easy task just to see pistons but it is the best, and possibly only way other than pulling them out of the block. All aftermarket Piston's I've seen have their logo forged under the skirt as Brent said.
