Hello, it is Dec 17 cold & snowing. Over the next couple of months my girlfriend and myself will be helping my best friend build up his 91 supra. We are starting from scratch and learning as we go. I should note that my girlfriend and I are not Toyota people (we build fords). My friend is a novice at best. So we will take any suggestions and give them some thought. The forts phase of the build will be the engine & engine bay. The engine suffered from a bad head gasket then spun a bearing. Here are the planed mods.

machine the crank, head and block.
bore block 1mm over
probe forged pistons
eagle rods
BC valve springs
apexi neo
1.5mm head gasket
boss jr turbo
aem adjustable fuel regulator
larger injectors (550)
Lexus afm
larger inter cooler
cam gears
stock cams
full exhaust
boost controller
larger fuel pump

I will keep updating pics as we go

mm a nice four eyed fox body, i like it, looks like you do good work, im curious to what the CP pistons look like think you can snag some pics of them? As for the 1.7mm MHG do you guys already know how much was machined off?

ill get some pics of the pistons when i get the block back from the machine shop (they have them at the moment).
im not sure what they took off the head and deck yet but i told them as litttle as posible. I wanted a thick gasket because we are going to run at least 16psi of boost

Did you have the rear timing cover attached to the block when it was machined? If not its need to be on when it gets decked. As for the headgasket you dont need one that thick, you need the correct gasket thickness to maintain the same compression ratio as stock. stock headgasket thickness when compressed is i believe 1.37mm so if they shave .04mm off the block and .04mm off the head then you would be looking at a HG thickness of 1.45mm or something close to it. 16psi is nothing for a properly built or even oem rebuilt 7mgte (w/ a MHG).

No problem, here to help ;) Whats the power goals for the motor? Is the machine shop using a torque plate for this motor? As for your cams, just get new shims of the correct thickness. edit: reread that, just get a set of used 7mgte cams. they can be had for $40 used.

400hp is a cinch with these cars with a good tune of course. However its just my opinion dont you think the motors being overbuilt? Unless hes having it built for 600+ but is only going to use it for half of that. Just my thoughts lol of course having that extra piece of mind isnt a bad idea also, but these motors are strong stock regardless.

your right. but i try to build my motors for reliability. his wife said she is only letting him do this once lol

quick question. are the cam journals always score up on these thing. it seems the coating on every used cam I've seen is crap

Not always, but you can have them machined and polished if you want. You can also get cams regrounded in the duration spec you want. As far as reliability ive seen quite a few 7m's on stock internals make 450hp without coughing, or giving problems. Someone on these forums said "the 7M is only as good as you make it". The new debate is how strong the internals will hold up, someone made 700hp on the stock internals but of course now we just have to see for how long haha. (but these motors are proving to be quite strong) In any case i think youre smart for building it, like i said nothing wrong with having an extra piece of mind. Now moar pics :naughty:

Awesome. Nice to see another semi-local Supra being rebuilt. I'm about 15 min outside Albany and doing a 1J swap, which is on its 3rd year LOL. House gets the priority unfortunately, but the engine should be in by this summer.
Can't wait to see your project finished

the dash is almost done. As for the rest of the car, well it has to get worse before it gets better. :)
