What's up fellas?? my name is Mike, and I own a supra! I figured it was about time I make a build thread! this is my first build/startup so I have many questions, and I am sure I came to the right place. I've had the car for 5 years....... but we'll get into the history later.

right now, the goal is to have her up and running in a month(hopefully less)... that is, if I get all the hardware/parts needed in order(you know how that sh go). but yea hasn't been running in 5 years so I'm a bit disorganized.. :aigo:

20160220_220317306_iOS.jpg

as you can see the reason why its getting rebuilt.. in short, it was my old bosses car, within family since new I think. got it for cheap, mainly because a few parts were stolen from the car while in his driveway a while back and he knew I had an 87 supra also. bought the parts needed to start her up and voila white smoke everywhere. not 100% sure why a piston detonated, but I think it had something to do with the aftermarket parts that were installed without a tune up?

so here we are now. I've moved around a bit but always kept the car home and covered. regaining my motivation to finish this baby up! I had the motor rebuilt early fall 2016 stock internals and gasket. everything torqued down right in intervals(forget the ending # now but I believe it was 90-100). long block is done, will have more pics

things left to install: oil dipstick housing, exhaust manifold/turbo/mounts(turbo can go after motor install), coolant bypass line/hoses, oil filter relocation housing, thermostat housing, upper air intake and hoses

things still needed: oil filter relocation gasket(cannot find), exhaust manifold nuts(believe driftmotion sells them)
I'm sure there is more because I'm getting down to the nitty gritty...

PLEASE! Any suggestions, tips, criticism.. whatever. I'm open to all of it! all of ur minds together could lead to something great or just bring about the monster under the hood :icon_evil

goals for the week to come: prep car, check gas tank, maybe order walbro fuel pump, install all that's left.. get ready to install!
I have more pics comin for y'all so hold tight!

Jeez.
Over 70 views, and nobody comments.

Good for you and good luck!
As far as the oil filter relocation gasket, do you mean the stock filter housing? If so, get it AND the exhaust nuts from your local dealer. It should be pretty close to the price that you'd pay Driftmotion, since you'd have to add shipping with DM.

Also, remember to put a new O-ring on the base of the dipstick tube.

Post pics with your updates and progress.

Right!? I'm sayin'.... thanks for the love Supraguy! And thanks! Haven't touched oil dipstick yet, so I will be sure to do that! And yes! I realized the stock housing and the oil reloc. are the same lol.. that gasket should be coming in any day now!

As far as ex nuts, I already ordered them with the fuel pump.. it was all there so figured why not..

I've been waiting for some gaskets from my but over at Toyota in Mamaraneck, which should be in my hands today. So in the meantime, I removed the fuel tank and BOY is that thing a mess... Glad I ordered that fuel pump, but may have to drop some more $$$

Got some pics for ya! The fuel pump looks totally shot.. you can literally swipe away gunk and debris off of it. The sender and fuel pump bracket are just rusted to all hell. And as for the fuel tank.. IDK! I may look into replacing that too.. As for the last picture, I'm not sure what I'm missing, hoping it all comes to me when I install more parts. I've been on the TSRM almost daily, to try and get everything refreshed in my mind.. but this part is still a bit confusing for me. I think once I install full intake and vsv and all it will all come to me again.

Didn't get much work done on the weekend.. I work at a restaurant and got hit with a double on sat and sun. Monday I was able to move car, cleaned a part of garage out real thorough since it was a beautiful day in the tristate area. Tuesday removed fuel tank. Hopefully it doesn't rain much this week. Still have a lot of prepping left to do.

Planning to have motor in car by next weekend if all my parts are here!!! I'll keep yall posted!

So I haven't been able to do much on motor.. Just been cleaning engine bay, garage, looking for nuts and bolts I will need in the near future. I should have bypass line gasket, oil filter housing gasket and turbo oil line to block gasket in my hands tonight. Fuel pump should be in by Tuesday. Still unsure what to do with the fuel tank.. looks pretty shot...

It's a bit rusty on the inside and I'm sure there are pieces of the fuel pump lying around at the bottom..

Do y'all have any suggestions? If this was your car, what would you do?

So I did some research and asking around... my ex coworker says I should go the fuel cell route. so that's what I have y mind stuck on right now.. seen some setups and they can look real nice! I figure its the easiest and quickest fix for my problem.. Let me know what yall think! Have any of you guys done this before? any tips/suggestions!???

Looks like a car that's been sitting a while.
How deep into a restoration are you planning to go?
As in- do you plan to remove and recondition suspension subframes, etc?

Yeaaa you can really see it too.. Not exactly sure how long it sat before me, but it was pretty dirty when I got her. Some jerks came by the previous owners nice neighborhood and managed to steal some parts out of the car and he lost interest..

But I do plan to clean her up pretty good! I'd like to get a paintjob in the winter if I can set aside enough money for a nice one. And while that is getting done I will thoroughly clean this baby up! We get pretty bad winters here in CT(or used to) so that would be the project for the winter time. And surprisingly the front subframe is very clean!

Some Progress!

Haven't been on this much, but I have been putting some hours in on the car.. I ordered an intank walbro 255 before tanking the tank out lol.. Ordered a fuel cell also. I'm sure I can still use the intank pump, just have to set it up differently. I have not installed it yet, since I've been prepping motor and tranny for install. I had planned to install today but totally forgot about the hub release :/

Ordered that last night so hopefully it arrives before Saturday.. its supposed to be 81 degrees so that would be the perfect day!

So while I wait I'll start installing fuel cell and cleaning other stuff..

When you said fuel cell the first thing that came to mind was a whole bunch of cutting and welding lol. I had never seen or thought of installing a fuel cell like that, tbh I didn't even think it was possible. What do you plan to do with the space below it, the spare tire area?

I've always been a fan of the NA mkiv on the MKIII. I was trying to figure what wheels were on the car from how little I can see in the first couple of posts lol.

What part of CT are you at? How far are you from Danbury or Bridgeport?

Yea that's what I thought of first.. I kind of didn't want to go that way.. I accepted it and did some measurements but I still never cut anything or installed it. Deep down I never really did want to cut, so now I am thinking of just laying down some metal over spare tire well and drill it down with the fuel cell secured on top.

And yeaaaa I need to throw more pics up on this haha. And I'm a town away from Danbury actually hah, where are you from?
