hi i have a 87 supra turbo and i was driving and all of a sudden the temp gauge shot up so i shut off and let it sit till it got cold and then i turn the key to the on position and the guage was still all the way to the top and the engine was cold. i have no clue what it could be. help me please:1zhelp:

I had the same thing happen when my water temp sender went bad. Did you check to see if the engine was actually overheating? If it was hot enough the coolant overflow tank would boil. Could be a bad thermostat too.
Also could be a blown head gasket. Any other symptoms besides the gauge?

the car did not overheat at all.there is no overflow,no coolant was coming out,gauge just went up.the car has been sitting for 2 hours and still you turn the key and the needle jumps up to hot.
do u know how i would get the sending unit out lol and also before this happend the alt. conector was loose and it was getting hot and making other lights on the dash come on could this of shorted the gauge or a wire 2 it JW
