I wasn't sure if my stock gauge was right, so I installed a mechanical gauge and compared the results. Engine is thoroughly hot in all the pics. The oil pump has a 5mm shim in the relief, oil filter is directly on the block while I save for a full flow remote filter mount and cooler.

I was surprised at the low idle pressure on the mechanical gauge, most other 7M powered mk3's I've been in show a lower reading than mine did on the dash gauge.

The most interesting thing, the stock gauge would never make it to 40 psi even at redline. Revving to 6000rpm results in 75 psi on the mechanical gauge. It will hit 100 psi if revved when cold.

Very cool experiment! I can't wait to update my cluster with a new gauge. This is great motivation.

Mind if I catalog your results and maybe use them along with some of my own in the future?
