How are they connected?
R154-speed-gear to outer-cable to dash-cable to speedometer to ECU?

Reason I am wondering is because my speedometer cable is broken somewhere, but I do not know which part I need. All I know is that my turbo timer does not get speed input from ECU and that speedometer is not working at all.

How do I know if its the cable and not the speed-gear on the transmission?

Is there another way besides stock to get a reliable speed signal (if all other options goes wrong)?

It takes 5 min to undo the cable from the trans...then undo the short piece and test it...if it's fine then try to spin the long cable...most of the time it's the short section that fails!

The speed signal comes from the speedo...so if it's inop then you cannot get a speed signal another way....the short section of the speedo cost like $28 from Toyota....long section is about $100....lack of a speed signal can cause idle issues also..

You're gonna have to get dirty brother...man up and trace the problem.
