I recently bought a supra turbo and im in the process of a FULL rebuild. Now my title says its a 89 model year but the sticker on the door says 12/88. I looked at the block and its an earlier casting but i have the newer taillights and front fascia. So do i have an 88 or an 89?

You have an 89. The sticker in the door is that month and year it was built, and in the US the new model year starts in like September. Yours is like mine. Mine says 12/86, but is an 87.

89. No cup holders because it was taken out. All the supra came with cup holders as far as i know and the ones i have owned 86.5-91. Probly was taken out at some point.

88s still had that badge on the firewall, in 89 Toyota moved it to the door sill (I believe on all of their cars, not just Supras)

Also, 10th digit of the VIN will tell you the year. IIRC J is 88, K is 89. I dont know if pre89s had cupholders. According to Jeff Lange, 86-89 still had the 6M crank and block

89+ had cup holders in the center console. There pretty useless with a fountain drink and uncomfortable with anything there. And when you brake any sort of hard the cover comes forward and the drink comes at you.

Oddly enough my 2003 Celica has them in the exact same spot....still uncomfortable to shift properly :( At least they can hold a cup from 7-11 and I don't have to worry about the attack lid anymore though.
