Made a trip out to my folks land and put around 80ish rounds through the LAR.308, shoots like a dream...but I've realized the 4x16X50 scope I have is for...well maybe 100 yards max...so I'm looking for some decent Glass that would allow me to take it out to 150+ yards and still be useful.

So anyone have any recomendations?

What's your budget?

Hmm...I don't wanna be a cheap ass on it, but then again I don't have anywhere that is more than 200 yards to shoot, so $200? That's to low isn't it?

Not really. I remember before I deployed to Iraq from Texas, I stopped at a gun shop near the base there, and grabbed and really nice scope with about a 250 yard sight on it, and it cost me around $160 or so. Mind you my M4 never had to shoot that far, but people in the areas I was shooting at..... I saw them clear as day.

You wouldn't happen to have a brand would you?

The general rule of thumb for good optics, is to spend as much on them as you did on the weapon you're mounting them on... Now, with that said, I recently put my hands on one of these:

And I was stunned at how good the glass is on these. This scope's glass is 95% as good as my Leopuld Mark IV for about 1/5th of the price. I ordered one and mounted it on my field .308 and for the price it can't be beat.

You can pick up the base model from Black Bear for right at $300:

Millet makes long range scopes as well, but I've never seen one in person so I can't vouch for the quality of those:

You can pick those up for about $450 at the same place:

Remember that an M4 is a .223 and doesn't have the recoil of a .308 bolt gun. .308's and larger bolt guns tend to kick the living shit out of their optics.

Wow, Thanks a ton Mike. I really feel like I should go for the $450 scope, but the $300 Black Bear looks very nice too.

You can always tell who doesn't know that around here during hunting season, with the half-racoons. :p

Does all the shock affect durability or accuracy of a scope?
