Before selling a vehicle in California one must smog the vehicle before doing so. My car runs with no catalytic converter and has an open element air filter. Well i have acquired the stock air filter box and a cat converter. Now i am wondering, can i possibly pass smog without the cat converter (right now it has a hollow cat converter so visually i'll be ok)? and i'll be placing that stock air box back in.

I am not a California resident but are you tuning with anything? I know of a 800HP MKIV who passed with a straight pipe and N1 muffler after having his tune leaned out at idle to the point where the motor would die if it went any leaner. Not sure if that would work in California.

No tuning mods on my car.. so ill be slapping the stock air intake box and stick the cat converter on there. Note: This is the way I purchased my vehicle. Person who sold it to me paid a larger fee to get it to pass the test, if you catch my drift.
