So I have a lot of play with my shifter like when I'm in first gear I can move it around like its in neutral. Would I need to buy a new shifter or...? I don't really know much about cars so could anyone help me out?

Assuming it is an r154 trans then yes, those will help.
Over time the bushings wear out and fall to pieces.
Replacing them will tighten it up and make for smooth shifting.
(This is making me think I need to replace mine)
Bushings and the socket makes a HUGE difference. Its so cheap and makes the biggest difference. Almost no play here after 2 years.
the w58 shifter i pulled at the junk yard looked identical to my r154's...hell, the parts are so cheap, why not try?
Alright thanks guys. And I pulled out a new tranny from the junkyard any ideas on a stage 2 clutch? I've read reviews on Act which I almost got but they said they lost a lot of acceleration
I was looking up Act clutch because for a stage 2 it was a decent price and I thought it was good. But I looked up Act clutch for supra and a lot of people were saying they lost acceleration and it wasn't worth it.
