Saturn vs. 1J...

One of my friend's friends just strapped a supercharger onto his saturn (the 1.6l I think). They took it to a dyno and it's pulling 190hp and theyre leaning out around 5k (redline is 6200 I think). Once the guy gets his rpms back, my buddy thinks the car will beat my 1j (bpu, ~14psi).

What do you guys think? I'm guessing the only reason my friend would think that is cause when you ride in the saturn it totally overwhelms you with it's engine sound (no catback at all). With my car, I'm running the tanabe shm so it's relatively 'quiet'. So, to the average person, the saturn will feel faster...

This saturn doesnt stand a chance does it? It's a 2100lb car after they stripped it and everything...

Well his aprox 1/4 mile time is 12.975 based on perfect conditions and 190hp pushing 2100lbs Not knowing your HP , Im still gonna guess that you should win this one. But post up your HP and weight and lets calculate your 1/4 mile time.!

He drives a saturn.
That should be more than enough to bag on him.

he spent money to make a 190hp saturn, that is alot more than enough to bag on him :icon_razz Whether it's fast or not, it's still a saturn :biglaugh:

But, I still respect a good sleeper. Getting 190hp out of a 1.6L is impressive.

I had a 2,282 lb(factory weight) 1991 Saturn SC, So 2,100 lbs is not that far fetched. Those Saturns are light, and I swear Rubber Maid built them. Damn plastic panels. My Saturn was a good car, and I have known a few quick ones. You should be able to win against him. But please don't think just because you have a 1JZ you now have the automatic win card. The 1JZ while a good motor is still subject to the laws of physics like all motors are, namely weight and traction in your case. However the 1.9 Liter (the only motor that Saturn has that’s in the 1-liter category) has a lousy torque curve. It may make 190HP but I guarantee its power delivery is far from linier.

he's got ~190hp in 2100lb car = 11lbs/hp

Assuming based on what my 1JZ made on the dyno,
you have ~330hp in 3500lb car = 10.6lbs/hp

You still have a better power to weight.
You will most likely have a more aerodynamic car.
You will have more bottom end torque then a SC 1.9L.
You have a better setup for getting power to the ground (RWD vs FWD)

It's not really a contest :)

whats funny is how much money he puts in his car. at the end of the day, it's still a saturn with plastic body panels.

Since were bench racing your number seem a little off. The average 1JZ makes 290rwhp at 14psi of boost unless aggressively tuned. And 3500 lbs is a little light, unless he has removed weight the real number should be closer to 3700lbs.
So in reality ~290rwhp in a 3700lbs car = 12.8lbs/hp so he is at a slight disadvantage.

Yeah pretty funny huh, 100hp per liter, sad isn’t it. And the 7M only makes 76.6 hp per liter with a turbo. Ha ha ha, giggles all around.

If we were talking NA form
1.9L had 124bhp factory so 65.3hp/liter
And the 7M
3.0L had 200bhp factory so 66.6hp/liter

Thats nothing. I have seen Toyota Corollas with 4age engines in New Zealand and Australia put out 300 hp. These are 1.8 liter and 2 liter motors.

I always wanted to do that on a Corolla.

Actually The first half is WHP, when I was quoting the HP to weight ratio. And the second half is BHP because I have no clue what the Saturn’s parasitic drivetrain losses are. I'll edit it for clarity.
