Hello,

I (really, my significant other and I) have become new owners of a 1988 Supra Turbo.

Among other things, the car came with Eibach lowering Springs and 3 blown Illuminas.

I have decided on Tokico Blues based on previous experience with this model and the super low price.

I also want to replace as much supporting hardware as I can.

I plan on obtaining the following Toyota OEM parts to install at the same time as the Tokicos (I plan to keep the Eibachs)

  • Front Shock Mounts: 48680-14041
  • Front Spring Insulators: 48157-14020
  • Front Bump Stops: 48331-14060
  • Rear Shock Mounts: 48750-14011
  • Rear Bump Stops: 48341-14030

I feel like I should jump on the opportunity to obtain Toyota OEM parts before they are completely discontinued, but wanted to hear your opinions about aftermarket replacements that are of comparable quality. Specifically, the KYB shock mounts and rear bump stops are much much cheaper than the Toyota ones.

I searched for bumpstops/shock boots that would be compatible with the Tokico Blues but could not find any info. Do the Toyota stops fit on the Tokicos?

I have only been able to find KYB bumpstops/shock boots in rear fitment. Do these bumpstops fit both front and rear shocks if I am going to be using a non-TEMS shock?

Thanks in advance and I hope this wasn't too nooby for my first post here.

Thanks for the replies!

Do you think it would be possible to get the Illuminas replaced if I don't have the receipts for them?

I have been reading a lot about this Jeff Watson guy, I'll give him a call and see what he can do.

Thanks for the welcome!

Hm, so you'd have to get the receipt for them even though they've got a lifetime warranty, figures. I'd give the previous owner a call and see if he might have it around somewhere, also check the glove box, that's where a lot of people keep those kinds of receipts.

The KYB bump stops/upper mounts are the way to go to save some $$$. IIRC the 'insulator' comes with the upper mounts.

KYB Uppers: SM5160 (front) / SM5159 (rear)
KYB Boots: SB101 (front) / SB107 (rear)

I would also recommend new nuts/bolts while you're there:
Front upper nut: 90177-12002 x 2
Front upper mount nuts: 90179-10132 x 6
Front lower bolt: 90105-14047 x 2
Front lower washer: 94621-11400 x 2
Front lower nut: 90170-14006 x 2
Rear upper nut: 90177-12002 x 2
Rear upper mount nuts: 90179-08054 x 6
Rear lower bolt: 90119-14018 x 2
Rear lower washer: 90560-14009 x 2
Rear lower nut: 90179-14007 x 2

Another big factor is the sway bar end links. Although I'm happy with new Toyota ones I wish I would have spent the extra cash on a set of A1 or similar.

BTW: The KYB uppers do work with TEMS. I contacted KYB to confirm this for them. (even though you're using blues I thought I'd throw it out there for others)
