Just want some clarification on some of the numbers people are getting on theyre stock jdm/usdm 2j's out there. Im aware that in Japan they have an agreement to regulate theyre vehicles hp, but we all know that those numbers are different..
I believe the JDM motors put out 280hp to the crank and the USDM ones made 320hp to the crank. So if you take 30% drive train loss that would give you your numbers in threory. The differances in engines were the cams, turbos, and injectors. I just went ahead and upgraded all three to USDM spec to get me to those numbers. Just my thoughts
I've seen bone stock J-spec cars dyno at around 265whp, so I know 280 is low.
They were definitely detuned compared to the USDM ones though, that's for sure. Smaller injectors, turbos, cams, fuel pump, fuel pump ECU, etc.
Once you start modifying the engine though, it really makes no difference. Typically the turbos, fuel system and cams are the first things done on a 2JZ, and they're really the big difference between the 2 cars.
