To keep the canister from vibrating loose. It's suppose to be for weight savings too so claims RSR with the GTII line of products. When even one spring on each side is attached, the damn thing isn't going anywheres. They're a bitch to get on if you don't know how to go about it right off the bat. I've installed two sets, the second was a breeze ;).

What's the point of the springs on the RSR?
I never really figured that out.

I forgot I asked this, but I'm still curious.

Why do the RSR exhausts have those springs? Are they slip over pipes that need the spring to keep them together, or something?

Disassembly isn't that bad. It is a slip over design that uses springs to keep it together. The springs are strong, but not impossible to take off. BTW, the RSR is the loudest aftermarket exhaust for the MKIII. However it does give the most power gains of any system. I used to like the tone when all I had was the stock turbo. Now that I have a bigger turbo and more power, it screams (a good scream) at high RPMs. I love it now.

Here are the videos I've taken with my digital camera. All of the videos were taken with the RSR GT2 (no silencer) and the windows down. Sorry beforehand about the low quality and not being able to really show off the exhaust.

That's with the aftermarket turbo running up to 4500-5000RPM. Yeah, I've got surge but it isn't too bad. My BOV is the HKS, however I'm wanting to go dual and maybe go with the Greddy that squeaks. That way I've got two sounds in one (unique).
