I was lookin things over today and noticed something. With no rings on, should there be any play with the piston in the cylinder? Mine will move front to back(in relation to the front of the block) but none from side to side. Is this normal?

There's got to be some clearance between the two. I would think it would move both directions without the rings on.

Side to side has the skirts, front to back doesn't.

It's normal to a certain extent, has any of the machining been done?

Nope, no machining done yet. And yea I thought that because the front to back sides dont have skirts that could be a part of it. Im debating on spending the money on a mic to measure how wide the cylinders are, there expensive so i was thinking of maybe just having the machine shop check it.

You can get the micrometers at Advance or Oriley's for about fifteen dollars. They come in handy every now and again.
