G'day all,

I'm investigating the abilities of the bolt on Turbonetics 60-1 turbos available for the mk3 supra.

These include the:

CT26, 60-1 Hi Fi, Stage 5 (500hp)
CT26/T4, 60-1 Hi Fi, Stage 3 (400hp)
CT26/T4, 60-1, Stage 3 (400hp)

as found on the HPF site here - http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Toyota/Supra_86-92/Turbonetics/Turbos/Turbo_Kits

I'm after dyno sheets, max boost @ what RPM, and general opinions of the turbos.

Anybody with experience using any of these turbos, your help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks heaps.

Ashlin.

I've got one of those. I forget if I picked up the stage 3 or 5 now, but I can likely dig that out if I look.

No dyno sheets from me, I'm afraid. I haven't been paying attention to the RPM gauge to find out when I hit full boost, because I need to look at the damn road. It drives like a 60-1 CT26 upgrade with a better top end and a refined boost curve - those hit too damn hard, this takes a second or two to spool and makes it possible to do left hand turns from a stop at full throttle without wrapping your car around a pole.

Don't encourage the kids Grim. We only have so many left. ;)

lol,

i have a broken one, a friend bought his car and the shaft was broken on this bolt on turbo, he took the compressor side off and gave me the exhaust housing for helping him work on his rig,

im looking at having a 57 trim made out of it.

only benifit i heard about these were the exhaust housing was thicker to help avoid cracking..

am i wrong?

awesome, would be great if you could find out whether it's the stage 3 or 5, what else have you done to the engine/driveline of your supra? I know you said you don't have any dyno sheets, but do you know how much power you are making?

Thanks mate,
Ash.

thanks mate, certainly gone the whole hog with that build :) internally mine will be similar (ie. Forgies, ARP hardware, O-ringed block with copper gasket, along with all the typical extras and standalone engine control)

One thing, those pictures show a 58trim ct26? I'm guessing that isn't the hifi 60-1?? i was under the impression they used a Turbonetics branded compressor housing?

If it isn't the turbonetics 60-1, what was the 58trim high flow like in comparison? Are you happy with the upgrade?

Cheers again mate, thanks for your help

edit - BTW, your Supra looks hot man, i like the photo from the rear, chunky tires :D

Im running a Turbonetics 62-1 Dual-bearing turbo, I wasnt the one who put it in I bought it like this, but it does have a spacer so I am guessing its a non-HiFI, but I cant give you any numbers because I am dealing with a lot of oil leakage right now

The turbo pics from my gallery are out of date. (And the engine bay pics, I have a different radiator in there now too, I really should get that updated...) That one is sitting on the bench in my garage, a victim of death whine. The Turbonetics was the unit I purchased to replace it. Here are some pics of the new turbo:

I guess I haven't taken any pics of it in the actual car yet, or if I have they haven't migrated to the internet server yet. :)

The upgraded CT26 was a 60-1 compressor wheel as well, but it's got a much smaller exhaust wheel and a lighter CHRA. The Turbonetics spools a little slower, but hopefully trades that for longevity - the upgraded CT only lasted about 1700 miles. Performance is awfully similar. The CT had better low end spool, the Turbonetics has better top end performance.

PS: I've got even bigger tires on there now... :)

thanks for the comparison pictures mate, looking at the difference in the the exhaust wheels and the fact the compressor housing doesn't protrude past the manifold flange I'm going to take a guess and say thats the Stage 5 Hifi, wondering how the waste gate actuator fit up though?

Am thinking I'll go with the CT26/T4, 60-1, Stage 3 (400hp) I'm really only after about 300rwkw's and sfa turbo lag, I won't get to 300rwkw with the stock injectors anyway, so when the time comes for more power I'll get the injectors and perhaps replace the whole manifold/dump and go with a garret roller bearing turbo

damn it, problem is, JTamulis doesn't ship internationally, otherwise I'd probably consider just getting my turbo from him, don't suppose you have any pictures of the new waste gate actuator you needed?

edit - they have actuators for sale on HPF, here - http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Toyota/Supra_86-92/Turbonetics/Wastegates/Wastegate_Actuators

but considering it's another $100 odd dollars I'm probably better off just just getting a SP61GT or having my own turbo high flowed locally, i really only wanted a 57trim anyway, and then at least then i don't have to worry about oil lines, and it'll have a wet center to improve longevity... *Shrugs* damn it's hard to decide...

He ships internationally - he shipped from the USA to Canada for me, anyway. I didn't get any pics of the actuator, I was in far too much of a rush when I was bolting it on, and it's more than a little hidden now.

Mmmk not sure then, maybe he just has a thing against aussies lol

My only real concern about getting my current ct26 high flowed, is the risk of it shitting itself 3000kms down the line... Considering it's already 20years old, and will only come with a 3 month warranty.. From what I've heard 57trims don't put too much of a load on the shaft, also from what I hear they are amazing for low RPM spool and should also provide enough flow to allow 300rwkw(400rwhp) Being able to use the stock coolant/oil lines and actuator will save me another $200-250USD as well

Ive got one of those 60-1 on my supra, havent got it running yet tho so i cant comment on it.

But i made the stock ct26 actuator fit the turbonetics turbo, its just a matter of getting a bit custom with some metal and a welder
