No laptop to Motec connection using a CAN cable to parallel port. HELP!!!

I am very very disapointed. Today I installed the M600 motec but I can't
connect the lap top to the motec. It reads 'connection error'...
I use a CAN cable (part number of motec CAN cable 61021) to parallel port.
WHAT ON EARTH is wrong and I can not connect??????????????????
I have to get in the data menu to change the impedance of the injectors so
I can start the car. Car is ready to run and I am pissed that I can't turn
the ignition on...

Please motec tuners HELP...

what operating system? Anything in the event viewer? What laptop (manufacture and model)? What version of the ECU manager are you using? make sure that the parallel port is enabled in the BIOS of the computer?

if 3.5 or higher, did you go to the tools menu, otions, communication tab, and uncheck the USB check box but left the parallel checkbox checked? Also should be set to 1 Mbit CAN data rate.

I got 2 laptops for this job. Both with 25 pin parallel ports for the CAN
cable. 2004 Compaq the one laptop and 2005 DELL the other one.
Mine is HP pavillion without a 25 pin parallel port ..useless!
All laptops run XP windows. The motec software version is the newest...

I should have got the UTC to USB cable and not this CAN crap cable.
Ian told me that this CAN cable doesn't work with all laptops,and he uses
only the UTC !

I myself only use the UTC also.
