i found some toyota waste spark coil on plug coils. would prolly work great with a 7mgte. idk if it would need the is300 wires or not. these were on 4 cylinders. they had 2 of them so i grabbed 3 coils. got the clips as well. anyone with the is300 coils that can lmk if the wires from those will connect to these coils the same?

The reason the 2JZ coils work well is because they are quite short.

Not saying these won't work, just that mounting and getting wires for them seems like it'd be more hassle than getting coils designed for a 6-cylinder that are already shorter.

But, post resulting pictures if you do go for it.

im not using these. grabbed them in case my friend wants them. i got them cheap from the pick and pull. im using individual coils and the 6 channel ignitor from a camry. and as for the length of the boots. thats easily trimmed. ill post pics of the coilsetup im going to install. but im also on megasquirt so not bound to the pos 7m electronics. :)

pics here (at work so cant access photobucket.)

dont got the part number but its from 94-95 camrys and lexus es 300's all of which are fwd with v6. ill try to get the part number off the ignitor when i get home. it has 6 inputs and 6 outputs. can be used for sequential ignition

From the picture it looks like it is the same clips as on the 7m and 2jz coils

they are. i was asking about the sparkplug wires though. look in the round hole where the plug wire goes. its got a lil male pin in there. the 7m wire doesnt work. tried a spare already.

Also make sure you get one from a Camry with 6 coils. Toyota went to 6-coils and then later to 3 coils wasted spark, so get one from a sequential ignition setup. It's basically the same as the 2JZ igniter with a different connector.

the 94-95 camry's all had the sequential ignitor and individual coils as did the 94-95 es300. anyway the part number on my ignitor is 131300-2130

That is actually a Denso #. The Toyota # is 89621-33020 or 89621-35011. Both may/should be on the tag on the ignitor.

89621-33020 is the 6-channel igniter used in the 94-95 Camry/ES300.
89621-35011 is a 3-channel igniter used in the 96 Camry/ES300 (and others).

Another choice is the actual 1JZ/2JZ 6-channel igniter, which was also used on the 95 Avalon, it has 2 connectors instead of just 1 like the Camry igniter.

1JZ/2JZ/1MZ 6-channel igniter can be one of the following numbers:

89620-14460
89620-24080
89621-22020
89621-22030

take a closer look at my pic. the camry ignitor has 2 connectors. 1 at each end. both 8 pin connectors. i even have the diagrams and pinouts for them on my car domain page.

also, the part number i posted was the only number on the toyota sticker on the ignitor.

This appears to be a DS61. How is it different from the DH61 3 ch smart ignitor from the IS/GS300? Different/no tach output?

Do we know which, if any of these, are "smart" ignitors that control dwell (I'd like to know yes/no for each)? What are the differences between each part number? Should we look for one over another?

Sorry to ask so many questions.

the 6 channel has 6 inputs and 6 outputs. the 3 channel only has 3 inputs and 3 outputs. the 96 has the coils that have a post on them and run a plug wire to the other cylinder. so only 3 coils are used.

as for smart ignitor. i beleive all of the 6 channel ignitors control the dwell of the coils.

Sorry my mistake. I didn't say what I was thinking, lol.

Camry/ES300 = 8/8 pin connectors
Supra/Avalon = 12/4 pin connectors

ok correct me if im wrong but im guessing this ....with the right ignitor you can use 6 coils on 7mgte electronics ????

(i know its not going to be like p/p )

you can use the camry coils and run the camry ignitor. just wire the inputs into waste spark (1 and 6 together, 2 and 5 together, then 3 and 4 together) and have them triggered by the stock ignitor. im wiring mine to be triggered by the edis6 module i already have wired up so i dont have to mod the inside of my megasquirt 2. the 0utputs of the camry ignitor would be wired to the coils as per the normal diagram. ill post pics and whatnot after i install it which im hoping will be tomarrow if it doesnt rain.
