So I have a 87 with a 7m that was running, but smoking from the turbo really badly. Also before the smoking issue I had an issue with the CPS that I changed and it showed me the smoking turbo issue because it actually started running the correct way. Now I've changed the turbo with one that I was told didn't smoke... Now when it starts it pours white smoke and smells so rich I can't breathe in my garage. AND now I've got freaking code 12... CPS which makes no sense to me and code 51 which I've had... Had it when it was running. Already replaced the KS with a coax and soldered it in to the ECU side and everything. Also is it possible that when I put the CPS in, the timing is off and it is causing the smoke and the code 12? Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Does it continue to smoke after initial start up? if not it can be an indication of worn valve seals. Ive had alot of issues with CPS connectors in the past where the connectors themselves would make intemitent contact. only resolved that issue when I replaced both connectors with my own deutch connector.

I forgot to put that on my first post, bought a new harness clip from Toyota and the new cps connector from DM and the car sputters out after about ten minutes idling..

No it smokes until it dies off, and the smoke smells like straight gas and is a whitish color, I can post a video this afternoon when I get home.

Sorry that was a horrible use of the English language... The smoke continues to come out of the exhaust until the car dies off. The car idles for about 10 minutes tops and then just dies. If I start it again, it will start right back up and run for another few minutes or so and then dies again.

Have you checked for stored codes?

Could be a blown head gasket or burning oil.

Block test and compression test or cylinder leak down test will tell you.

Are you losing coolant or oil?
What color is the oil.

Compression was good, I get a code 12, and a code 51, not losing any fluids that I'm aware of. With the code 12 will that cause smoking? I've set the timing with the CPS twice now, however if it's off will it cause the smoking? Also will the code 12 cause the smoking? I don't understand how the car starts (better than my 05 corolla in fact) but won't stay running. I'm guessing it's getting flooded and that's what's causing the smoke and dying but I don't know why it could be flooding. When it wasn't doing this before the bad turbo was replaced.
