Okay, so my brother in law said I could buy his 1997 VW Golf GTI 2.0 5 speed from him. I do want it, but it needs work, most likely a transmission. He said I can have it, and when/if I decide to keep it, when I sell my 1998 Ford Escort Sedan Sport 2.0 5-speed, I will give him 1200 of whatever I sell the escort for. It would leave me on top, but I do need to buy a transmission for the Golf. I think the 020 transmission in the Golfs are a dime a dozen, but its the work involved. Probably a day job, but its principal. The golf does have coilovers, bbs wheels, and intake. It has leather interior, sunroof (working), and crank windows (their electric ones always fail).

Things that need to be done:
Tranny
Fix/weld exhaust hanger, it rattles

My escort is in excellent condition, but it is an escort, its boring, but comfortable. Thats about it.

Now, what would you do? I do not have to sell the escort right away, I can fix the issues in the golf first, then sell escort. But I am having a hard time deciding if its worthwhile. The golf is a blast to drive, and handles great, but yea. Not sure what to do. I figured since this is a Toyota forum, it will be the best choice for unbiased honest answers. Thanks in advance

Hmm... personally, if the Ford has no issues, and has been a solid car, I would say keep it. An interesting DD tends to lead to putting money into it, right? Putting (unnecessary) money into the DD takes money away from the Supra... ;)
